Avni Health Foundation

Public health aims to satisfy the human need for health by facilitating a series of individual and societal exchange, these may include the adoption of individual behavior and life style changes and the adoption of societal programs to improve social and economic conditions.

Health is something that people need and want. It is however not something that comes without paying a price. To achieve health people must give up something of value, time, convenience, money, and pleasure.

This is where the challenge lies because unlike commodities like soft drinks and chocolates etc for which there is a positive demand even though they may potentially be harmful, public health has a negative demand, no demand or unwholesome demand. People do not want the product, do not care about the product, or desire an alternative product whose use is counter-productive to the target of improving health. Additionally the environment is hostile wherein for every rupee spend on health there is perhaps more than 10000 rupees spent on promoting unhealthy behaviors, switch on your television and see the number of advertisements for food items, surrogate advertisement for smoking and consumption of alcohol, and lifestyle related products urging, cajoling consumers to use them and lastly the public health practitioner is ill prepared with the skills necessary to bring about change.

The need for a nodal organization that could serve as ---- a link between the grass root workers, the Government, Non-Government organizations and the community at large and ---- a center supporting several technical & practical field based capacity building programs has been repeatedly realized and expressed.

Our foundation aims to fill this niche.
